Assessment and Treatment for uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections

Who do I see?

Community Pharmacist/Practice Nurse

Advice:

Community Pharmacy – This service provides timely and appropriate access to treatment for uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women between the ages of 16 and 65.  If you have three or more of the following symptoms then a three-day course of Trimethoprim will be available to any woman who meets the criteria from your local Community Pharmacist.  Symptoms – pain when urinating, frequently urinating, urgency when urinating, tenderness in lower abdomen.

Who can’t be treated at your local Pharmacy – men, women younger than 16 or older than 65, women who are diabetic, pregnant or breastfeeding, have renal impairment or blood abnormalities, women with blood in their urine, women with lower back pain and/or a fever, women who have had two or more UTIs in the past six months, or three or more in the past 12 months, women who have had an antibiotic-treated UTI in the past 28 days.  If any of this applies to you then please phone the Practice on 01292 550238 to speak to the most appropriate Clinician.

Urine samples will not be accepted unless specifically requested by a Clinician.

Sterile sample bottles are available at reception.
